Depression? Anxiety? Autoimmune disease? Too much copper and not enough zinc from a plant based diet is the reason why your vegetarian or vegan diet may be gradually causing you health problems.
Following on from my recent post about the issues with copper overload, I wanted to share this information about how to calculate ratios of Zinc, Copper and Ceruloplasmin from blood tests as I have found it helpful. It allowed me to confirm my suspicion that copper may have been causing a lot of my symptoms by allowing me to work out how much unbound copper was floating around in my body as well as my zinc/copper ratio.
Copper is not only a beautiful, useful and valuable metal, it’s also a nutrient that is found in many food sources, and essential for good health. But what happens when we have too much of it in our body? High copper levels can cause all sorts of chaos…
I recently realised that I need to limit my copper intake because of the whole Zinc/Copper ratio thing that can be such a big part of Pyrrole disorder. So there goes the nuts and seeds – except pumpkin seeds and roasted, they’re awesome!
